A study done by the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that children of divorce have a higher likelihood of being arrested for a violent crime. Lack of a father figure affects a child’s social and psychological growth. What happens when you grow up without a father? This means only one thing the child needs a father figure in their lives. This would bring about her moving away from her feminity and being drawn to feeble men or she could go to the other extreme of turning out to be excessively female and will tend to develop in a harmful relationship with men. She will develop a negative perspective on men. When the girls who don’t get fatherly love while growing up don’t feel secure and strong with themselves. Daughter growing up without a fatherĪ father is someone who provides a girl their first glimpse into what the opposite sex is, which then goes on to build how she is going to perceive men when she grows up into an adult woman. If such a situation happens where a boy doesn’t get to have a father figure around then there are chances that he may start identifying his mother and may become an emasculated male or he can go to other extremes, becoming a man who hates women and engages into destructive behavior. So fathers provide building blocks that a boy needs to become a man. A father is someone that helps boys to identify themselves with someone and then he starts to internalize his father’s traits. They also face problems in figuring out what their familial role is and how to thus best serve their family. When they reach adulthood they may have difficulties starting their own families. Without an essential male role model, boys may experience issues affirming their way of life as a male. But if you find yourself taking this out on others, harming people, or thinking of violence, it’s time to speak to a mental health professional. It’s normal to feel angry or upset about your situation. When you can’t see a positive outcome from your situation, you may develop thoughts of violence. All of this may lead to feeling depressed or hopeless. You may find yourself asking why it was this way, why you weren’t enough, or why things are the way they are. You may notice these signs in a fatherless child 1. Finally, fathers have the power to shape their child’s future by being supportive and aspirational figures within the family unit. Fathers also provide aid with discipline, which is especially important in early childhood to help children develop self-restraint. If a father is not present, their son will grow up unaware of what it means to be a man. Firstly, they are the masculine role model that their child needs.
